MERIT Membership
If you are an education scholar, you belong to the MERIT community.
There are three levels of membership: Member, Scholar, and Scientist.

MERIT Members have sustained and growing interest in Health Professions Education.
Benefits to becoming a MERIT Member include:
- MERIT affiliation
- your profile in MERIT communications
- the opportunity for project consultation with one of our scholars or scientists
Responsabilites of being a MERIT Member include:
- regular attendance at our monthly MERIT Rounds
- presentation at MERIT rounds
To apply to be a MERIT Member send your contact information form and letter of support from your Department/Program chair to merit@mcmaster.ca.
The membership committee will review all applications.
MERIT Scholars have demonstrated knowledge and experience in Health Professions Education research and / or innovation projects.
Benefits to becoming a MERIT Scholar include:
- eligibility to compete for conference funding, limited research assistance support
- access to Internal peer review of applications and publications and academic mentorship
- access to tele- or video-conferencing for project communication
- your profile in MERIT communications
- the opportunity for project consultation with one of our scholars or scientists
Responsabilites of being a MERIT Scholar include:
- peer consultations with Scholars and Scientists
- scholarly paper review
- membership on HSEd thesis committee(s)
- regular attendance at our monthly MERIT Rounds
- presentation at MERIT rounds
To apply to be a MERIT Scholar send your contact information form, a letter of support from your Department/Program chair, an up-to-date CV, and 500-1000 word description of why you want to become a MERIT Scholar and how MERIT aligns with your academic career to merit@mcmaster.ca.
The membership committee will review all applications.
MERIT Scientists have graduate training and lead a program of Health Professions Education research with an established track record in HPE scholarship.
Benefits to becoming a MERIT Scientist include:
- office space, conference funding, research assistance support
- SPSS / NVivo subscription, CV management, expense management
- access to senior academic mentorship
- assisting with welcoming and hosting visiting scholars / scientists and eligibility for 1:1 consultation time
- access to tele- or video-conferencing for project communication
- your profile in MERIT communications
- the opportunity for project consultation with one of our scholars or scientists
Responsabilites of being a MERIT Scholar include:
- competing for peer-reviewed grants, producing first or senior author peer-reviewed publications, supervising HSEd thesis students
- collaborating with Scholars
- regular attendance at our monthly MERIT meetings
- regular attendance at our monthly MERIT Rounds
- presentation at MERIT rounds
