Teresa Chan, MD, FRCPC, MHPE, DRCPSC, is the recipient of the 2021 Royal College Award for Early-Career Leadership in Medical Education / Continuing Professional Development.

Dr. Chan is an associate professor of medicine, and an emergency physician with Hamilton Health Sciences, who first joined McMaster as a faculty member in 2013. She began her new role as associate dean of the Continuing Professional Development office (CPD) at McMaster University on July 1, 2021. She previously served as assistant dean of faculty development at the FHS, focusing on integrating social media and Web 2.0 technologies for faculty development.

Dr. Chan is known for embracing new and innovative educational techniques and making a tremendous impact in medical education and continuing professional development, using tools such as social media, podcasts, blogs, and gaming to increase health literacy and help faculty and healthcare professionals upgrade their skills and knowledge.

Her nomination came as a complete surprise and Dr. Chan says she was “flattered and honoured” to receive the Royal College early career award.

You can read the full original article and interview with Dr. Chan by visiting the Royal College newsroom.
